Brain Wiring Fault

I dont know how civilizations lived earlier and we dont know how they may live in times to come, but it seems to me that in our present day and age with the society that we live in, our brains have been wired to understand that if we need to spend our stipulated time on this earth peacefully, what is often referred to as "standard of living", then we need to be always aware of the one commodity that we need, that being Money.

For the majority of populace which finds itself without specific passions to pursue in life, brain covers this void with the objective that we fill ourselves with aspirations of collecting as much of this commodity as we can before hitting the grave in the hope that someday when we have had enough of it, we will be happy and content. However, we forget that since we have been wired with aspirations to accumulate money and where it is very important to note that no upper limit is defined or set as an objective within us, we easily pass the rest of our lives being engaged in this activity without ever questioning the logic behind our motives and actions. The only gauging factor man has at his disposal to understand if he has much of it is by measuring his quantity with other's around him. So brain plays havoc with one of man's basic flaw of comparing oneself with others to gauge the measure of one's own happiness and this in turn then becomes an infinite loop for man, society and civilization to carry about this business of never ending accumulation. To think that this evil design stops here, well, the icing is perfectly set in that when we do turn into ash, none of what we have accumulated comes along with us.Genius.

But what were to happen if a regular person with no specific passions to pursue with which he could substitute the need for accumulation with the need to be perfect in his chosen skill or dedidicate his life to decides to try and alter his brain wiring. Basically, if today one is part of the system and is standing at level A of a certain standard of living as defined and in a normal course he would aspire to aim for a certain higher level B which would in turn require effort from him to direct his energy towards the process of accumulation to meet his objective. But what happens if the person tries and fights and tries to wriggle out of this situation wherein he says, I dont want B. Ofcourse, saying it is merely not enough as the envirnonment and our brain wouldn't allow it easily. If it were so easy, we will have less computer professionals and more rishi munis, sadhus and babas. :)

Coming back to the point, if a person does realise and comes to peace with himself that he does not want B, suddenly he will realise that in that case he does not need further accumulation. In all likelihood, this same person must already be directing his energy and time towards accumulation to be at the the current level A that he anyways is. Probably it will further dawn upon him that it may not be worth staying at A as well if it means losing precious limited time that we have to spend living and breathing before the end comes calling. So either suddenly or gradually, depending on how the person has come to realise it, the brain wiring faults.

So what gives, there has to be consequences to any action a person takes that goes against how we are wired. The chain that was filled within us for us to be under an infinite loop of activity breaks and the person concerned then gets filled with void, as probably how it should be. Coming so far upto this stage should probably be the easier part as what lies ahead and the efforts that the person may need to fill the void could possibly even be as never ending as the process of accumulation itself.

The question arises then that is it not better that man be engaged in an activity along with the required climate that is provided to him to harness that pre-decided activity to save him the trouble of filling the void on his own. To digress a bit, as I mentioned earlier, unfortunately this pre-engaged activity of accumulation brings men in conflict with each other precisely for the reason it seems to me because this is an uncontrolled and infinite loop and the only quantifiables are measured by stacking one's conquest with another. At best this process tries to take advantage of all of man's failings such as jealousy, insecurity, prejudice to name a few. However, it also seems to me that many of the problems of our society could be erased or lessened in impact if each person were to be wired to try and disassociate himself from this mad race and focus more on his own life and being and measure his own happiness by the standards that are defined by him. If man's flaws can be exploited , then the wiring could plausibly also change to exploit the virtuous quaities in humans to assist society to live in a more harmonious way by being more disassociated in a sense.

But that is about society in general and collective transformation ,which may need to be discussed separately. Coming back to the individual though, as long as only specific individuals try and follow this process of becoming void and filling it out on their own, it will require more effort and strength within oneself as there are no support systems for this structure within society. How one decides to fill the void himself is something only each individual can answer for himself. And to think that the answer to this question may come easily would be undermining the process. As part of the accumulative process, we may have noticed how it is very difficult to know what we really like and feel passionate about, however we would also notice that it is far easier to know what we dont like. This goes for as mundane things such as being unsure about whether which color of shirt out of black or blue is good but pretty sure the the color should definitely not be yellow. Same logic goes even for people, friends and to an extent family.

So just like a person may decide on blue shirt initially, try it out and shift to black over a perod of time, similiarly a person may need to try out different activities which he thinks can fill his void and look for an activity that can keep him contented for the sheer pleasure of doing that activity and without any need external gratification. I say think because one must be aware not to feel insecure of having accepted this path if any work that one does towards filling our void turns out to be unsuccessfull. If anyways a person is not looking to go at level B by wasting his time and energy, the person could probably at leisure decide and randomly choose his vocation before moving out to try another.

Just the experience of having tried to live a life that was not dictated upon but was chosen and lived according to the standards as defined by an individual himself should give enough satisfaction when the end is near and one would get an opportunity to reflect.Would be so much better than the feeling of 'what if' and the realisation at those last moments when one could tell to himself before going to sleep that no matter what the situation was, what the conditions prevailed, how the system worked and even no matter whether I succeeded or failed, I will let my last breath go knowing that yes, I tried.
